Carson Wentz to the Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have traded for Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Carson Wentz on February 18th. In return, the Colts will send a 2021 third-round draft pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that could turn into a first-rounder pending on Wentz’s 2021 campaign to the Eagles.

In order for the conditional 2022 second-round selection to turn into a first, Wentz needs to play at least 70% of the snaps and the Colts reach the playoffs, or if Wentz plays 75% of the snaps.

This trade will help out the Colts significantly as they were in the market for a future quarterback, due to the retirement of starter Phillip Rivers. Wentz will return to play with Frank Reich in Indianapolis in hopes to rekindle Carson Wentz’s best days as a quarterback.

Reich was formerly the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator from 2016-2017, where he led Wentz to an 11-2 record before Wentz suffered a season-ending injury. In addition to guiding his team to an 11-2 record, Wentz was in the midst of an MVP season and threw for 253.5 yards per game while completing over 60% of his passes.

Wentz had a spark under the current Colts Head Coach, and them reuniting could mean a bright future in Indianapolis. Wentz immediately comes into a situation with one of the best offensive lines in the league (Ranked 7th, according to Pro Football Focus) as well as one of the top 10 defensive units in the league (Ranked 10th according to the NFL team defense statistics).

Wentz is still only 28 years old and with a clean pocket and a good defense, Wentz could easily reassert himself into the talks as one of the top tier quarterbacks in all of the National Football League.
