Lack of Funds for the Esports Team

Hamilton Southeastern Esports, a video game club was introduced to the school in the Fall of 2021. Which grew over time, the team got bigger showing a variety of games like Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash brothers, Valorant, League of Legends and Chess. The teams compete in the Indiana High School Esports Network, the state league, as well as the Electronic Gaming Federation, the National League. The as more players joined, there became an issue. Hamilton Southeastern doesn’t fund the team, which causes the team to practice at home. With doing so, the team must plan and hope all members are able to participate in set practice times.

“Practicing at home takes away from building team chemistry.” Valorant Captain Lucas Bratton explained “It’s a necessity for a team to practice face to face, being able to sit down and talk about the games face to face is important” Bratton explained.

Hamilton Southeastern High school is one of a few schools not funded enough for an Esports facility. Schools that the team plays, such as Carmel, Ben Davis, and more are funded and provided an Esports facility within the school. Without it, the variant teams are forced to practice at home. Practicing at home comes with some issues, scheduling practices is a struggle because of the normal day lives outside of Esports. Some kids come late to practice or get distracted with things within the house. Being funded would help with an esports facility to help our players be able to connect with teammates as a more connected team Practicing from home limits the ability to truly understand somethings being said
