March Madness to Indy

The NCAA tournament has never been held in a centralized location, until this season. In a season unlike any other, dictated by a rare pandemic, the NCAA has been forced to adjust the logistics of the NCAA tournament.

Beginning in March, the 2021 NCAA Tournament will be entirely held within the state of Indiana. All 68 teams will be announced on “Selection Sunday” which is currently scheduled for March 14th.

The tournament will be played in numerous venues throughout the Hoosier state. Ball State, Butler, the Horizon League, Indiana, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Purdue will host the tournament, providing their facilities and personnel to assist with the operations of the tournament.

Turner Sports Production will continue their coverage of the NCAA tournament. They have provided the distribution of the NCAA Tournament since 1991, and their current contract states they will continue to do so until 2032.

Medical guidelines developed by the NCAA have been accepted by the Marion County Health Department and will continue to work with the NCAA before and during the tournament.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association will work tightly with the Marion County Health Department to lay down the protocols within the teams and staffs, in the tournament.

Below is the current scheduled dates for the NCAA tournament:

Selection Sunday — March 14

First Four — Thursday, March 18

First round — Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20

Second round — Sunday, March 21, and Monday, March 22

Sweet 16 — Saturday, March 27, and Sunday, March 28

Elite Eight — Monday, March 29, and Tuesday, March 30

Final Four — Saturday, April 3

NCAA championship game — Monday, April 5

The Final 4 will head to New Orleans next Spring in 2022. In 2026, the Final 4 will return back to Indianapolis, and will be held in Lucas Oil Stadium.
