Dancing Towards Success

Dancing+Towards+Success

“Energy, Family, and Competitiveness” are three words used to describe dance from Sophomore Lila Oliver. As the winter dance season is around the corner, Friday night performances turn to competition days.

“Dance means so much to me, because of the friendships you make and the competitive energy,” Oliver said. “I’ve been dancing for fourteen years now.” Dance plays a huge role in Oliver’s life. It is more than just a hobby.

After fourteen years of training, Oliver has complete confidence in her performances. “I learned confidence is key,” said Oliver. “I’ve been to many dance conventions, and the moment a teacher gave me the confidence, I saw myself grow,” explained Oliver.

Becoming a good dancer wasn’t easy. “What it takes to be a good dancer is having confidence, and enough practice” explained Oliver “taking technique classes every week, can help make the technique correct” explained Oliver when asked what it takes to become a good dancer. The time dancing takes up throughout the week, means becoming a good dancer comes with the ability to work hard and commit to the dance. By doing that Oliver earned a spot on the varsity dance team her Freshman and Sophomore year.

To be a good dancer standing out separates you from any other dancer. Teammate Lily Casey explains how Oliver stands out from other dancers, by saying, “Lila is the most talented and determined dancers on our team, she’s by far one of the most well-rounded and passionate girls” says Casey, “And genuinely loves to dance, especially here at HSE. She has a very unique and versatile style.”

Though the dance team at HSE Oliver looks to earn interest from colleges. Hoping to accomplish, “being on a collage level dance team.” Oliver says. “If I continue dance, I hope to attend LSU, Cincinnati, or Oregon, the dance teams are challenging, and being challenged is how I get better.” Oliver explained.

As some only dream of things, Olivers dream are slowly turning into a reality, as she already is one of the impactful girls on the dance team, showing up every day being able to produce a performance is not for everyone, but Oliver has adapted to the role of being a leader and an example on the dance team. Right now, is only the beginning of something great as Oliver has already proven why she is someone to acknowledge. In her final years of high school dance, she will continue to grab attention from schools around the country.
