Last Year, First Time
Making the most of it
Have you ever been playing a certain sport for most of your life, then decided to play a new sport you don’t have much experience in? Jacob Fierce wanted to try something new.
Senior Jacob Fierce has been a track runner for most of his life. When I asked him if I write this story on him about track, he stopped me and said, “Let’s talk about swimming instead. It’s my first year on the team.”
“As a senior, I can start chants with the other seniors, lead exercises in practice, and encourage my teammates to work harder.” Fierce said.
Sometimes it can be difficult to start and new sport. Maybe if you haven’t played that sport competitively before. Jacob wanted to make more of his last year at HSE and try something new. Jacob wanted a new challenge.
I reached out to Jacob’s dad, and I asked him why did Jacob decide to join the swim team this year? “For most of Jacob’s life, he likes new challenges.” Mr. Fierce said.”
Fierce expressed to me how important parent support is. Since the swim team here at HSE is held to a high standard. Seeing your family members in the crowd can give you extra motivation.
“Jacob’s work ethic has always been great.” Mr. Fierce said. “His grades have been up all throughout high school and Jacob also has an internship.”
Senior year of high school is really special. It’s about taking opportunities, try new things, and making
the most of your last year in high school. Fierce wanted to try something new.
